What is PureVPN?
A VPN helps protect your privacy by routing all your internet traffic through a remote server managed by a VPN company. As one of the oldest providers on the market, PureVPN has had plenty of time to pack their software full of cybersecurity extras. This robust VPN service has an enormous and widely distributed collection of servers located in over 78 countries. In the very unlikely event that your information is hijacked, the layers of encryption turn your data into gibberish that can’t be deciphered. So, if you’re a frequent traveler or looking to hide your location, PureVPN is your best bet to staying anonymous online.
Why use PureVPN?
If you’re only just discovering the ways your privacy is under attack and looking for a little extra protection, PureVPN should be on your radar. Encryption is necessary to securely protect the data you don’t want anyone else accessing. Whether you’re running a business and want to protect your corporate network, or you’re just looking to defend your data against identity theft, PureVPN can help. Their self-engineered and self-optimized servers are secured with AES 256-bit encryption, giving you the highest level of anonymity from even the most brute force attacks. When you’re connected with PureVPN, your real IP is masked with a virtual IP leaving you to enjoy undetectable online freedom.
Whether you’re using a desktop, smartphone, or tablet, PureVPN will automatically select the best encryption, so you don’t have to get a cryptography degree to figure it out. PureVPN offers multiple tunneling protocols, an internet kill switch (ensuring your privacy remains intake when VPN connection drops), dedicated IPs, 6500+ servers, split tunneling, and so much more. This VPN server truly earns its place as one of the top competitors, and we can see why.
PureVPN Pros and Cons
How to use PureVPN?
Although VPN services are designed to protect you from advanced cyber-attacks, using a VPN is quite simple. Just download the VPN app, sign in, choose your desired location, and start surfing the web completely as usual. Once you log in, you’re greeted with an accessible Connect button that immediately gets you online with the best server. It’s a straightforward approach that will benefit new VPN users. This smart design carries over to their server selector, where you can see a list of available countries to choose from. The interface shows any dedicated IPs you have available, favorites and recently used servers, and the servers PureVPN recommends. Unlike the competition, PureVPN clearly organizes their relevant server information onto a single screen, making it fool-proof for the user.
PureVPN is great for beginners because it automatically selects the VPN protocol it thinks works best. For more seasoned users, you have the option of manual configurations to select the protocol you’d like to use in Settings. The app also includes a Kill Switch and Split Tunneling setting. With PureVPN, you can connect to ten devices simultaneously with a single account, which is double the average compared to most competitors. But if you’re tired of installing PureVPN on every device, you can speed things up using a router. We’ll include steps on how to do this later on.
Our Rating Process
The VPN market has been around since the days of dial-up but has exploded in the past few years. With so many providers, you might be left wondering which ones you can trust to be your digital bodyguard. That’s why we assessed PureVPN based on privacy, speed, ease of use, and value. We assign all criteria a score out of 5 points for a comprehensive PureVPN review to help you decide if this VPN service is the right fit for your network requirements.
Privacy – 4/5
PureVPN checks off a lot of our boxes when it comes to privacy. Their 256-bit AES encryption plus a comprehensive no-logging policy to cover your tracks online is the standard you should be looking for in a VPN provider. Not to mention the proprietary Ozone specialty server that automatically applies URL filtering, anti-malware, IDS/IPS, s blocks, and add filters to your connection.
Speed – 4.5/5
When you’re using a VPN, your data is routed through a remote server rather than through your ISP equipment. The encryption process will add some overhead to your bandwidth usage. Using a VPN server will always slow down your internet connection, but a great provider will minimize this trade-off. PureVPN offers a powerful AES 256-bit encryption code while maintaining 310 Mbps on download speed tests. With over 6,500 servers located across 78+ countries worldwide and nodes in uncommon spots like Kuwait, Belize, Georgia, and El Salvador, you will never have to settle for a slow-speed connection again.
Ease of Use – 4.5/5
PureVPN scores are high on accessibility. The user interface is quick and easy, with tons of customization options for you. It’s almost too good to be true that you can simply download the app and log in, but our research shows that’s really all it takes. If you’re ever left with questions, their 24/7 live chat and e-mail feature are available with knowledgeable staff to help you out. While live chat is most people’s preferred method of contacting support, we know some lean towards the old-fashioned phone call. If that’s the case, you’re out of luck with PureVPN.
Value – 3.5/5
PureVPN’s subscriptions prices are pretty affordable, ranging from $2.91 to $10.95 a month. Compared to other providers, this is a low-price range in the VPN industry. Each subscription allows you to connect ten devices at the same time (that’s twice the industry standard). There is also a business version of PureVPN, priced on a per-seat basis. It’s $8.45 per person per month, but pricing may vary depending on the size of the organization and its specific needs. Unfortunately, PureVPN lost us on their drastic price increases – sometimes as soon as the first billing cycle. All-in-all, we are impressed with its snazzy redesign and happy to see the size of its VPN server network. The company also deserves kudos for the variety and low price of its add-ons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Setting up a VPN doesn’t have to be rocket science, and PureVPN makes it easy to install with these simple steps. Get yourself a PureVPN a monthly or yearly subscription, download and install the app on your device, log in and select a PureVPN server. Now you can browse privately and without restrictions.
Here’s what happens behind the scenes when you hit the ‘Connect’ button. The PureVPN app on your device is authenticated with a VPN server in the country you’ve selected from the available options. Then, all your traffic passes through a VPN tunnel and is encrypted using protocols, making it impossible for third parties to read it. Then the VPN server gives you another IP address (masking your geo-location), decrypts your traffic, and forwards it to the intended destination. As soon as the data you requested from a web server is received, it’s encrypted again and sent back to you. PureVPN decrypts the incoming traffic for your device, so you’re always secure on the world wide web.
PureVPN allows you to simultaneously connect up to 10 devices. But, if you’re looking to provide network-wide online security features, you can add PureVPN to your router, granting all your devices the benefit of VPN protection. Before getting started, you’ll need to ensure your router supports either PPTP or OpenVPN Client. For a complete list of compatible routers and their applicable setup instructions, you can visit PureVPN’s guides here.
You can choose from three options. PureVPN offers a 1 month ($10.95), 12 months ($3.74), or 24 months ($2.91). What’s great is that no matter what option you choose, you will get all the same features, including multiple log-ins, unlimited server switching, unlimited bandwidth, and so much more. If you’re looking to add more to your VPN server, be sure to check out the abundance of available add-ons. We know you won’t be disappointed.
